Our aim is to produce musical theatre performers, dancers and actors that have the skills, knowledge and attitude to be successful in an increasingly demanding profession. The studios staff and graduates have an excellent reputation within the industry. Recent success stories include Oliver Ormson performing in the Addams Family UK Tour, Mike Eborall performing in Miss Saigon UK Tour and Tommy Sherlock headlining the Tenors of Rock in Las Vegas. Students at LTS who are 19 and over are eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan. The college is regularly visited by professional bodies such as Trinity College London and the Council for Dance Education and Training.  So what makes us unique? Our students all get individual professional attention which focusses their individual skills and talents to lead them to a successful career in musical theatre or acting. In addition, students receive excellent careers guidance and audition preparation enabling them to gain employment in the industry. Destinations include the West End, UK tours, cruises, pantomime, TV, film and theatre work.


 

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance or Musical Theatre 


Our BTEC Level 3 Extended diploma in performing arts (Musical Theatre) equivalent to three A levels are aimed to prepare students for the next stage of their vocational training. Great emphasis is placed on developing technique and nurturing talent, specific guidance will be offered in the second year in readiness for your next career move. This two year full time performing arts programme is designed for students age 16 – 18 who are passionate about making it in the musical theatre world. Students take part in a carefully choses variety of workshops and classes including: Jazz, Commercial, Lyrical, Acro, Singing and Acting along with relevant theoretical units. The course is delivered by professional experienced teachers.

Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre Level 6   (Three Year Course) 


This diploma is devised for talented students of 16 years and over who want to be successful in Musical Theatre and is a level six qualification validated by Trinity College, London.
The aim of the course is to develop our students into triple threats that can make it in the West End. We instil the versatile and dedicated work ethic into our students so they are able to achieve in the extremely demanding musical theatre industry.
We make sure students get the attention they deserve by making sure none of our class sizes exceed 16 students. This works in tandem with our intensive, exciting and extensive teaching of singing, acting and dancing.
Students will have weekly performance workshops, audition preparation and career development sessions. Every week students will take part in individual singing lessons that will develop their technique and repertoire. Keeping fit is an important aspect of performing at the highest level we ensure you have an excellent level of health and fitness through diagnostics, body conditioning, Pilates and nutrition sessions.
Expert teaching staff, guest lecturers and visiting directors ensure you continuously strive to meet your personal challenges. To help you maintain your high standards, individual progress is closely monitored. Regular tutorials and assessments ensure you receive continual feedback and support.

Year 1
Students focus on a broad-based core curriculum concentrating on achieving strong basic technical skills in dance, acting and singing. Contextual studies in anatomy, health & safety, history of musical theatre and theatre studies provide related academic content. In-house student productions allow for the development of artistic confidence and peer co-operation.

Year 2
The second year of the course aims to build on the core subjects with the emphasis on further strengthening and broadening of technique and integrating projects are worked on. Students are now focusing on developing skills and knowledge and encouraging an analytical and artistic approach to the practical and theoretical work in preparation for the graduating year.

Year 3
The main emphasis in the third year is to consolidate the students’ training for their intended profession. Professional Employment Skills are key, and individual career aims are addressed. A main feature of the third year is performance experience. Three productions for the course are prepared: a play, a showcase both in the North West and London where invited agents attend, and a musical. All students take part in the annual college show, which culminates in the celebration of graduation day.
All students perform several times during the year.

 

 


Level 5 Diploma in Professional Dance – Contemporary Focus (Two year course)

This diploma is devised for talented students of 16 years and over who want to be successful in Dance and is a level five qualification validated by Trinity College, London.
The aim of the course is to develop our students into well rounded, athletic and highly skilled dancers who are desirable in the industry, whether that be for a Contemporary Company, a Cruise Liner, for Commercial work in music & TV, for a  UK or International Tour, or on The West End stage. We instil a versatile and dedicated work ethic into our students, so they are able to achieve in the extremely demanding dance industry.

We make sure students get the attention they deserve by making sure none of our class sizes exceed 16 students. This works in tandem with our intensive, exciting and extensive teaching of different dance genres. Contemporary is the key skill for this diploma, however, throughout the course students will study many supporting genres of dance: Classical ballet, Jazz, Commercial and Tap. In addition to these subjects Acro, Lyrical and Jazz Partnering/Adagio work will also be studied. The course is designed to prepare students for both the technical and performing demands of the industry. Students will learn the skills required to audition successfully for a career in dance by gaining strong technique and exploring the artistry within dance. With their continued commitment, discipline, energy and focus they will graduate with all the skills needed to gain longevity in their careers.

Students now focus on developing skills and knowledge and are encouraged to work with an analytical and artistic approach to the practical and theoretical work in preparation for graduating. The main emphasis in this year is to consolidate the students’ training for their intended profession. Professional Employment Skills are key, and individual career aims are addressed. Year 3

The main emphasis in this year is to consolidate the students’ training for their intended profession. Students work on an a devised ‘Project’ requiring independent research and collaboration in choreography. Professional Employment Skills are key, and individual career aims are addressed. The ‘Showcase’ both in the Northwest and London is where invited agents attend. There is also a Musical in a Northwest Professional Theatre, where students work with the Musical Theatre students to showcase their singing and dance skills. All students take part in the annual college show at the end of the academic year in a Professional Theatre, which culminates in the celebration of Graduation Day.

 

 

Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE)

The Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) is an achievable and streamlined teaching qualification that provides student teachers with a clear and cohesive pathway to becoming a qualified dance teacher with the ISTD. As a regulated Ofqual recognised teaching qualification, the Level 4 DDE is structured to equip initial teachers with a strong foundation to ensure they are safe and confident to start their teaching career. The Diploma in Dance Education is recognised as a mark of quality worldwide and will enable graduates to access a number of different teaching pathways and institutions. The regulated qualification itself holds 120 credits and can enable graduates to transfer credits to other FE/ HE institutions in order to access degrees or alternative qualifications at Level 5 or 6.
